About summit
September 5 – 8, 2004 | Hotel Marriott | Prague | Czech Republic
120 senior health leaders from 25 countries were welcomed by Prague Mayor Pavel Bem and William Cabaniss, the US Ambassador to the Czech Republic, to explore trends in health system performance improvement. The leaders discussed a variety of issues facing CEE health systems as they move into an expanded European Union, including such topics as: new health insurance models, quality of care, technology assessment, innovations in service delivery for hospitals and physician clinics, service outsourcing opportunities with health insurance plans and hospitals, disease management and leadership development.
The symposium was organized by The International Health Summit, a knowledge management company based on London, England and Minneapolis USA in cooperation with KlientPro, a Czech managed care consultancy company serving Czech and Slovakian health insurance plans, and HealthReform.cz.
Dr. James Rice, president of the International Health Summit stated, "I am very impressed with the quality of our discussions at this conference, and believe that many good ideas were exchanged among the delegates that will help all our countries improve the performance of our hospitals and health insurance plans."
Focus groups during the conference identified the need for countries of the new Europe to experiment with health insurance reforms that favor more choice for consumers, more transparent payment arrangements to hospital and clinic providers, and a sharper focus on continuous process improvements to achieve higher levels of cost effectiveness. Bold public-private collaborative models are also expected to be implemented in most of the world's 191 countries over the next 5-7 years.
